Coaching

Rural Rounds

Rural Rounds is a not-for-profit organisation that supports students from rural and under-represented backgrounds gain entry into Australian medical degrees.

We achieve this by providing informal coaching to plan and apply for medical schools in Australia. Students in our program receive tailored ongoing near-peer support, access to resources for the medicine entry, interview practice and assistance in applying for scholarships.

Our story

Rural Rounds was founded in 2025 by two medical students who recognised that many talented rural students lack access to the mentorship, networks, and guidance that enable successful entry into medical courses and rural focused training.

Our coaching program

Our informal coaching program is tailored to each high school student.

Sessions take place over Zoom © roughly once a month and are run by near peers, who are medical students or junior doctors.

We are happy to discuss aspects of the preparation process, including work experience and school subjects, the UCAT, interviews and medicine entry pathways (especially rurally-focused course options).

We will pass on resources, link you in with work experience opportunities and suggest scholarships you might be eligible for.

We can also answer any questions you have.

Disclaimer

One thing to note is that Rural Rounds’ informal coaching does not directly offer tutoring, formal course advice or health and well-being services.

Tutoring teaches academic content; whereas we provide guidance—helping students understand pathways into medicine and plan how to get there.

Although we’re not tutors, we do partner with a range of services that give our students access to academic support at discounted rates.

We also suggest that you contact universities directly for more specific course advice and seek health and well-being services outside of our service.
